Logan H.S. students learn dangers of texting and driving
LA CROSSE, WI — Area high school students are promising to keep not only themselves, but others safe on the road.
Students at Logan High School in La Crosse took part in a seminar learning about the dangers of texting and driving.
Students signed a pledge to never text and drive while behind the wheel. The pledge is part of a movement by the Wisconsin State Patrol called “It Can Wait.”
The program urges high school drivers that a text message can and should wait until after driving.
Police say driving is hard enough, but even harder when the driver is distracted. “There is so much divided attention in and of itself just with the act of driving. Then when you divide that attention further by whether it’s texting, or making phone calls, or taking care of their kids in the back seat, or picking things up of the floor, any of those types of things can lead to tragedy,” said the Director of Wisconsin’s Bureau of Transportation Safety Sandra Huxtable.
Car crashes are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 15 and 24.
