Madison siblings saved, thanks to paper carrier

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Madison brother and sister in their 70s have a newspaper carrier to thank for their rescue from their home.

Police broke in and saved the siblings Monday morning after the carrier became worried when papers started piling up outside the home.

The siblings had been immobilized for days after the 75-year-old woman fell and the 77-year-old man got stuck between his walker and a dresser.

State Journal carrier Sylvester Phillips says that besides the accumulation of papers, the door to the house was open, a light was on early in the morning, and the pair’s car hadn’t moved.

Officers arrived and, with the man’s permission, removed a window screen to get inside, where they found the two.

The Capital Times reports the pair was taken to a hospital.
