Major League Fishing hosts a free kids fishing derby for La Crosse area

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- With the Major League Fishing tournament and fishing and outdoor expo going on, MLF decided to give back to the La Crosse community with a youth fishing derby.

At Copeland Park, kids 14 and under got to participate in a free fishing derby.

Participants could bring their own gear with them or use gear provided by Major League Fishing.

Pros from Major League fishing were at the expo hoping to inspire some of the youth.

This is Major League Fishing’s first kids derby since the beginning of the pandemic.

“We provide all the bait, through a donation of worms, we have rod and reels rigged up ready to go, so they can be out on the water fishing with us here on the banks of the Mississippi River, ” said MLF Promotions Manager, Scott Ellison.

The Major League Fishing Tournament and expo end today, but organizers of the event said they hope to come back sometime in the future.
