Maleceks finish high school careers in big way at state meet

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)–Kora, Amalia, and Lydia Malecek all took home gold in their last events as a Hilltopper.

The trio along with Jillian Lonning took first in the girls four by 800, with a 9 minute 10 second time. They won by 23 seconds.

Then Lydia Malecek notched her first singles state gold with a 2 minute 11 second finish at the girls 800 meter dash, as Kora capped off a successful career with a silver medal in the 3200 run.

“Just crossing the line, knowing I did it, its my first individual state tile ever I was like ‘oh my god, this is insane. This is really happening. it was crazy.’ We had to stay composed after our four by eight because we had more races, but it was fun to finally have fun with it and smile at the end of a race,” said Lydia, following her win.
