Man accused of breaking into former house
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Police say they have arrested a man accused of breaking into his old house in Des Moines.
The Des Moines Register reports that the 40-year-old man had owned the home for nearly eight years, but lost it a year ago because of financial problems.
The new owners of the house in the city’s Oak Park neighborhood say they returned home Thursday night to find the former owner standing inside.
The new owners told police the man had threatened them.
Police say they found dirt tracked inside and open drawers that appeared to have been rummaged through.
The man told police he had ridden his bike to the house to tell the new owners he was getting it back.
The man faces a charge of second-degree burglary.
