Man accused of shooting, injuring La Crosse police officer last August makes a plea in court
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The man accused of shooting and injuring a La Crosse police officer last August makes a plea in court on Tuesday.
Allen Kruk, 35, pled no contest to attempted first-degree intentional homicide while armed.
Judge Ramona Gonzalez found him guilty.
The remaining charges were dismissed but will be considered at sentencing.
The state’s sentencing recommendation is 15 years of initial confinement, five years of extended supervision, and restitution.
Kruk could still face a maximum penalty of 60 years, which would include confinement and extended supervision.
On August 3rd of 2019 officers responded to a domestic call at 317 9th Street South in La Crosse.
Kruk was at the back of the home when officers arrived.
He was asked to come out of the house, before pulling out a gun and shooting Officer Dustin Darling once in his bulletproof vest.
Darling in self-defense fired back, hitting Kruk several times.
Darling was injured, but has since recovered and is back on the job.
Kruk was denied bond during Tuesday’s hearing.
