Man dies of injuries following altercation at La Crosse store
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – The La Crosse Police Department is conducting a death investigation following a fight in the Menards parking lot.
Police were called at approximately 2:19 p.m. on Friday, May 1 to Menards on Lang Drive for a report of a man injured during a fight in the parking lot. The person was taken to an area hospital and later died of his injuries.
The initial investigation indicates that Matthew L. Kinstler, 50, was reportedly upset with how the victim, Russell W. Paulson, 79, parked too close to his vehicle. The incident began as a verbal argument and quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
At the time of the incident, Kinstler was arrested and referred on charges of Substantial Battery and Disorderly Conduct.
This remains an active investigation, as Investigators continue to speak to witnesses and review evidence. Police are also consulting with the La Crosse County District Attorney’s Office.
