Man disables annoying smoke detector with shotgun

A Vermont man who grew tired of his smoke detector’s false alarms ended up disabling it with a shotgun, according to The Associated Press.

Leroy Mason is facing charges after police said he fired two shots at the smoke detector in his kitchen, hitting the adjoining wall of another apartment. Mason had complained about the smoke detector in the past, but fire crews refused to relocate it.

When emergency responders arrived to the scene, they took the shotgun away from Mason. Mason subsequently pointed a handgun at them and demanded they give back his shotgun. The 68-year-old was disarmed without injury.

Mason pleaded not guilty Tuesday and was released.
