Man killed in Beloit shooting, hurt officer IDed
BELOIT, Wis. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of a police officer who was shot and wounded and the man who was killed in a shooting in the Town of Beloit.
The Beloit Daily News reports Sgt. Richard Felger, an eight-year veteran of the Town of Beloit Police Department, was shot in the left leg and he returned fire.
Felger underwent surgery at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
Authorities say 26-year-old. Darryl Cooper of Rockford, Ill., was pronounced dead at the scene. Cooper had been shot multiple times.
The number of people who fired shots and the number of shots discharged still is under investigation.
The shooting happened early Sunday in the parking lot of Rex Lanes bowling center as a large crowd left the building.
