Man leads police on high-speed chase in stolen street sweeper

Police in Hillsboro, Oregon, chased a man over 10 miles on a stolen street sweeper Sunday morning, Hillsboro Patch reports.

Tyler Haguewood, 33, is charged with reckless driving, attempting to elude and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in the chase where speeds reached 65 mph.

KGW-TV reports a contractor was cleaning the WinCo Foods parking lot in Hillsboro. The driver left the sweeper to use a handheld blower when Haguewood jumped in and drove off.

Officers pursued the sweeper down Highway 219. Washington County sheriff’s deputies deployed spike strips at Scholls Ferry Road and Rainbow Lane, more than 10 miles away from where the chase started, KGW reports.

Haguewood was taken into custody and booked into the Washington County Jail, the Oregonian reports.
