Man on ATV rescued after falling through the ice
LA CROSSE, Wis — The Campbell Police Department responded to the Black River Bridge on Interstate 90 for a subject that had fallen through the ice on an ATV.
CPD Officer Nathan Casper located the subject directly under the bridge. Three fishermen were actively trying to pull the subject from the water using a sled and rope. The fishermen were able to successfully extract the subject from the water and on to the ice, where he was turned over to Officer Casper.
Officer Casper assisted the subject to the top of the bridge where he was turned over to the care of awaiting 1 st responders and paramedics. The subject was transported to Gundersen Health Systems via Tri-State Ambulance where he was treated for hypothermia.
The La Crosse County Dive Rescue Team was dispatched and assisted with the rescue. They remained on scene and attempted to locate and remove the ATV from the water unsuccessfully.
The three fisherman that pulled the subject from the water left the scene before they could be identified. Their actions likely saved the subject’s life that afternoon. The Campbell Police Department would like to offer our sincerest gratitude for their bravery and unselfish actions.
