Mayo adjusts parking for construction of new hospital building in La Crosse
Construction starts Tuesday on building to replace current one
LA CROSSE (WKBT) – Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse has changed parking protocols at its campus at 700 West Ave. to accommodate construction of its new hospital building, which begins Tuesday.
Changes during construction of the building to replace the current one include:
- Lot 2, adjacent to the Stephen and Barbara Slaggie Family Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, (Mississippi Street and West Avenue) will close permanently and become a construction zone.
- Lot 3 at 10th and Jackson streets will become patient and visitor parking for the clinic and the hospital and will be accessible via 10th and 11th streets.
- During construction, there will be no through traffic on Mississippi Street.
- Courtesy shuttle services will continue to be available by calling the door attendant at (608) 498-1247.
“Our goal is to minimize disruption to parking during construction and to keep parking close to our facilities,” said Karen Finneman-Killinger of Mayo’s facilities and support services. “We encourage our patients and visitors to utilize our shuttle services, and to reach out to us with any parking questions or concerns.”
Parking information will be updated throughout construction.
The new building, which will have six floors and accommodate 70 hospital beds, will be next to the cancer and surgery center along West Avenue, on space now used for parking.
The current building doesn’t have enough space and would be expensive to remodel, Mayo officials have said.
