Mayo Clinic health experts share why sunglasses are important
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)- During the summertime, many people spend a lot of time outdoors.
Sunscreen protects the skin, but health experts at Mayo Clinic Health System want to make sure you’re protecting the eyes.
Experts at Mayo say children receive more annual sun exposure than adults.
Unlike adult eyes, children’s eyes are still maturing and cannot filter out the harmful UV rays as effectively.
Mayo says Sunglasses are an easy way to protect your children’s eyes, but be careful about what kind of glasses they’re wearing.
Mayo health experts say to make sure the glasses have high UV protection.
Kids are out playing so consider activities and make sure they are durable.
Kids are more likely to wear sunglasses if they’ve been allowed to pick them out.
Experts say to let them choose among a few pairs of sunglasses.
And also set a good example in front of your kids and wearing sunglasses regularly.
