Mayo Clinic Health System releases new study on pregnancy and vaccinations

LA CROSSE (WKBT) — A new study shows that getting vaccinated can reduce the chances of a hospital trip for pregnant women.

According to a new Mayo Clinic Health System study, getting a flu shot could reduce hospitalizations for pregnant women by 40%

One Mayo expert says that getting these shots is important.

“The point of those immunizations is to keep you from getting sicker, especially very gravely ill,” said OB-GYN Dr. Thomas Howell. “We know that if you’re pregnant, your risk is much higher,”

The CDC reports that it is safe for pregnant women to get vaccinated for both the flu and COVID.
