Mbakwe pleads guilty to violating court order
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe has pleaded guilty to violating a harassment restraining order.
Mbakwe appeared on crutches Monday before Ramsey County Judge Judith Tilsen. He was the Gophers’ top scorer and rebounder before a knee injury ended his season last month.
Mbakwe admitted sending a Facebook message to an ex-girlfriend last January. Attorney Laura Nolen says he thought the order expired after one year, but it actually was for two years.
He was sentenced to the one day he spent in jail and fined $300. Conditions of his one-year probation include no contact with the woman and an anger management class if officials recommend it. Nolen says she’ll seek to get the misdemeanor charge dismissed after his probation ends.
She says Mbakwe is relieved to put this behind him.
