Medication drop-off scheduled for Aug. 17
Event runs from 9-Noon at La Crosse Co. HHM
LA CROSSE, WI — A medication drop-off event is scheduled for Saturday, August 17 at the La Crosse County Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) site.
The public is invited to drop off prescriptions or over-the-counter medications that have expired or are not being used from 9-noon at 6500 State Road 16 in La Crosse. The drugs will then be safely disposed.
“The pain killers have a very high level of abuse or potential for abuse and people have been stealing them from homes, some times family members get into them, and misuse them, so getting anything that’s unused pain killers or controlled substances, narcotics out of the house, it’s really important,” says Randy Nedrelo, special waste manager for La Crosse County.
You can drop off the following items:
-Prescription medications
-Over-the-counter medications
-Tablets and capsules
-Liquids
-Creams
-Ointments
-Inhalers, Patches
-Needles/Sharps
In April, the community dropped off about 1,800 pounds of expired or unused prescription and over-the-counter drugs.
