Mild Weather Returns Then Sticks Around

High pressure that brought a very cold night to the region last night will slowly move east tonight. South winds on the back side of the high will bring a warmer air into the region later tonight. Look for lows tonight to bottom out early in the evening, then rise as we head through the overnight. Unfortunately, we can still expect cloudy periods tonight.

Looking Ahead… Much warmer air arrives starting Thursday. In fact, it’s looking like above average temps will be the rule right through the weekend and into next week. Expect highs in the low-mid 30s Thursday (except mid-upper 20s far north), then upper 30s to mid 40s Friday through Monday. Well above average highs in the upper 30s to low 40s look like they’ll persist right through Tuesday, which is Christmas Eve.

It’s also looking quiet through this period, with mainly dry conditions expected. In fact, I’m not seeing any significant storm systems right through Christmas Eve. We will likely see cloudy periods, which is common when warmer air travels over a snow covered ground… but expect sunshine to mix in at times as well. In fact, it’s looking like we’ll see plenty of sunshine on Saturday and Sunday.

As for Christmas Day, some forecast models are hinting at a slight chance of light rain and snow showers, especially later in the day or Wednesday night. It will remain mild with highs in the upper 30s to around 40F. This is over a week away though, so stay tuned for updates.

A better chance for rain showers, possibly mixed with snow showers, is being advertised by many of the forecast models… heading into next Thursday. Temps will likely still be in the upper 30s to near 40F.
