Milwaukee infant dies after sleeping in adult bed

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee County authorities say a 4-month-old girl has died after being found wedged between a wall and the mattress of an adult bed.

Some authorities advise against sleeping in the same bed as an infant. But the mother says the baby didn’t like sleeping in the bassinet.

Authorities say the mother put Reneja Teague-McGowan down for a nap Thursday, and later lay down next to her to sleep. The medical examiner’s report says 24-year-old Khadeja Teague of Milwaukee awoke and couldn’t immediately find the baby.

The mother told investigators she found Reneja between the mattress and wall and called 911. She says her baby wasn’t breathing but had a heartbeat when she was found. The baby later died.

Teague told investigators she had not taken any drugs or alcohol.
