Milwaukee teen charged in crash that killed 2
MILWAUKEE (AP) — A Milwaukee teen is accused of causing a drunken crash that killed two people early on New Year’s Day.
Seventeen-year-old Kelly Duke was charged Wednesday with seven felonies, including two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Online court records didn’t immediately list a defense attorney Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Duke stole his uncle’s car Sunday about 6 a.m. Duke allegedly sped into an intersection and lost control, slamming into a waiting vehicle. Occupants Edwin and Jean Thaves were declared dead at the scene.
A witness told investigators he knew instantly the Thaves were dead because of the severity of their head injuries.
Police found Duke’s brother at the scene. He told police Duke had been driving.
Prosecutors say Duke’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
