Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announces re-election bid
ST. PAUL (WKBT) — Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced he is seeking re-election today.
Ellison, who has been attorney general since 2018, said his campaign is focused on building a fair economy and increasing voter participation.
“This is a campaign to increase participation of all people who believe in the simple idea of liberty and justice for all,” Ellison said.
His re-election campaign announcement was endorsed by several politicians, including U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., as well as local activists.
“If we want to make real, lasting progress for working families, for the people of Minnesota, we need partners like Keith fighting for us,” Klobuchar said.
Ellison will face one of three Republican contenders for attorney general: former Minnesota State Rep. Dennis Smith, criminal defense attorney Lynne Torgerson or former Minnesota State Rep. Doug Wardlow. The primary will take place on Aug. 9, 2022. The winner will face Ellison in the general election on Nov. 8.
