Minnesota teen unhurt when go kart falls through lake ice

LINDSTROM, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a 16-year-old Lindstrom youth was unhurt when the go-cart he was riding fell through the ice on an east-central Minnesota lake.

The Chisago County sheriff’s office says the teen was riding on South Lindstrom Lake, more than 800 yards from shore, just after 5:30 p.m. Saturday when the ice gave way beneath him.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports he was in the water about 15 minutes before witnesses could pull him to shore by sled.

Medics examined him at the scene and said he was not injured.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources warns that mild weather is making for unsafe ice conditions across the state. It says people should check ice conditions with a local bait shop or resort before heading out onto the lakes.
