Investigators say William (JOE) Swatek died from self-inflicted gunshot wound

A man who went missing just before Christmas was found dead in the woods on Saturday.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office said the body of William Swatek was found in the woods near the Cozy Acres Trailer Court, not far from the Wisconsin River. The body was found by a group of people out walking in the woods looking for deer antlers.

Investigators said Swatek died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a 49-year-old man who was last seen near Boscobel just before Christmas.

William (JOE) J. Swatek is described as 5’08,” 165 lbs, and has brown hair and hazel eyes. The Sheriff’s Office said he has not made contact with any family members.

“At this time there is no reason to believe Mr. Swatek is in danger, nor are there any suspicious circumstances surrounding him being missing,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a news release Wednesday afternoon.
