MLB Trade Deadline a hard deadline this season

Teams won't be able to make post-July waiver trades like in the past

The MLB All-Star break is over and teams will soon decide if they want to be buyers or sellers at the Trade Deadline at the end of the month.

But this year’s Trade Deadline is going to be a little different than years past.

Firstly, it’s not the last day of July like it has been. Instead it’ll be a day earlier on July 30 at 3 p.m. CT, because the July 31 falls on a Saturday with a bunch of day games.

It’ll actually be a hard deadline, too, with no trades allowed after that date. In years past, teams could deal players after the deadline as long as they first cleared outright waivers. Brewers fans will remember in 2018 they acquired Curtis Granderson at the end of August. That kind of thing has to happen before the 30th this year.
