Mock elections held for 8th Graders to vote

Lincoln Middle School teaches students about voting

A 13 year old may not be able to vote in this election but they can in their classroom.

Eighth grade US History classes took part in a mock election Tuesday. As part of it the students looked up where they would go to vote and what they would need to register.

The goal is to get the students to understand the privilege of voting and bring the message home to their parents.

“To hear that their parents now will know where to go, and I had some really heartwarming stories about kids who say, you know what, I’m going to get my mom to come with me and we’re going to do this together,” said Lincoln Middle School Teacher Terri Johnson.

The votes in their mock election will be tallied overnight and Wednesday they’ll see how they compare to the actual results.
