Mondovi man labeled “Career Criminal” sentenced to federal prison

MADISON, Wis. — A Mondovi man with a history of weapons charges will spend more than 15 years in federal prison.

William Ziemer, 48, was sentenced Tuesday by a judge in Madison on a federal firearms charge he pleaded guilty to in April.

Prosecutors say Ziemer burglarized a home in Polk County in September 2011, stealing a semi-automatic rifle and other guns.

Ziemer was labeled an “Armed Career Criminal” under federal law due to three felony convictions: two aggravated robbery convictions in Washington County, Minnesota, and a burglary in Eau Claire.

Ziemer’s arrest came after an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and western Wisconsin sheriff’s departments.
