MS Walk raising money for medical research

Hundreds of people are showing their support for people with multiple sclerosis.

Saturday morning was the regional MS walk which raises money for area people suffering from the disease, which impacts a person’s nervous system.

The walk is part of a much larger national MS event that features walks all around the country.

Walk organizers said research and treatment have come a long way and continue to grow.

Volunteers with the walk said Saturday’s walk is a way to raise awareness and continue the race for a cure.

“A lot of this money goes into research, and it’s borne out by nationally, there were only three medications available for multiple sclerosis. It’s now up to 17,” said Michael Sigman, a volunteer with the MS Walk.

Local organizers hoped to raise over $100,000 on Saturday.

Last year, the national organization raised over $130 million for research.
