Music Festival showcases area student musicians this weekend

More than a thousand students expected at Solo and Ensemble Music Festival

Young musicians in the area are showing off their talents this weekend in La Crosse.

They’re playing at the Solo and Ensemble Music Festival put on by La Crosse Central High School. The event is sponsored by the Wisconsin School Music Association.

More than a thousand musicians from surrounding middle schools and high schools will be performing. They’ll be playing in front of their peers and festival judges.

Organizers say the event is a great way to challenge these talented musicians.

“The kids will get to participate in something that’s kind of out of there stream. Usually they play in the band or the orchestra or they sing in the choir but now they get a chance to do solo’s and small ensembles and it’s a whole different ballgame,” said Solo and Ensemble Music Festival Organizer Jim Welander.

The festival is free and open to the public.
