Sparta Police have released the names of the men involved in the altercation that led to a stabbing Sunday morning.

25-year-old Joseph Ethier is charged with domestic abuse, disorderly conduct, and substantial battery.

32-year-old James Mallette is charged with disorderly conduct, substantial battery, and 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety.

Sparta police were dispatched to a physical fight early Sunday morning.

Arriving officers did not locate anyone immediately, but found significant blood in the street and snow.

Officers were able to locate a 25-year-old male suffering from two knife wounds after following the blood trail to a home.

They also found a 32-year-old with substantial injuries to the face outside a nearby residence.

It was determined there had been a domestic disturbance between the male and a female and the 32-year-old man attempted to intervene which resulted in the two males fighting and the knife wounds.

Both men were transported to Monroe County Jail.
