Nationwide ceremony honors fallen veterans
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — Fallen veterans are being honored across the country.
As part of a nationwide ceremony, La Crosse Composite Squadron cadets laid wreaths on grave sites of 187 fallen veterans at Woodlawn Cemetery.
The ceremony remembers and honors veterans and teaches the next generation about sacrifices they made for the country.
The La Crosse area ceremony aims to help kids understand what it means to serve our country.
“To help the next generation, particularly our cadets, but really any youth who come, to understand that freedom isn’t free, and the sacrifices of previous generations are the reason they have the ability to do what they can do, and the opportunities they have,” said Major Todd Mandel, squadron commander.
Wreaths Across America has been around for nearly 20 years. The tradition started in La Crosse six years ago.
Last year, nearly 1.8 million wreaths were laid on grave sites across the U.S.
