NCAA Tournament: Texas Tech beats Michigan 63-44

No. 3 Texas Tech dominated No. 2 Michigan 63-44 Thursday night to advance to the Elite Eight.

The Red Raiders (29-6) will next face No. 1 Gonzaga, which beat No. 4 Florida State 72-58 earlier Thursday night.

Sophore guard and NBA prospect Jarrett Culver led the way for Texas Tech in the victory with 22 points.

Freshman forward Ignas Brazdeikis led the Wolverines (30-7) with a double-double, scoring 17 points with 13 rebounds in the loss.

Michigan, which lost to Villanova in the national title game last year, fell short of reaching the Final Four for the second year in a row.

Texas Tech, which was playing in the Sweet 16 for the seventh time in program history, made the Elite Eight for the first time last season and hopes to improve that finish with another win on Saturday.

Like Michigan, the Red Raiders’ 2018 season came to an end at the hands of Villanova, with the eventual national champions winning 71-59 in the East Regional final.

The Big 12 regular season co-champions have bounced back from their upset loss to West Virginia in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals, beating No. 14 Northern Kentucky 72-57 in the first round followed by a 78-58 victory over No. 6 Buffalo.
