ND county to file claim against dam contractor
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Barnes County officials plan to file a claim against a contractor who did not complete repairs to a damaged dam in southeast North Dakota.
The Valley City Times-Record reports that the county water resource board decided Tuesday to file a claim against the Hawley, Minn.-based Sellin Brothers Inc.
The first phase of a $1.8 million renovation of the dam six miles uphill from Kathryn was supposed to have been completed months ago to protect the town from flooding. But officials said the Minnesota company hired to do the work had not done anything since December. The company said it discovered underground springs that no one had anticipated when the project was designed.
Emergency repairs were done by another company last month to protect against spring flooding.
