New bike sharing program coming to La Crosse

The City of La Crosse is getting one step closer to its sustainability goals with a new bike sharing program.

La Crosse Neighborhood Inc. is in the early stages of developing a bicycle sharing system. The organization is working closely with ‘Zagster’, a bike sharing company that has stations all over the country.

On Tuesday, the Bicycle-Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) approved a letter of support to bring bike sharing stations to our area.

The program aligns with the city’s goals to reduce fossil fuels and achieve carbon neutrality by the year 2050.

Chair of BPAC, Larry Sleznikow said,”We find that bike-sharing has been a great addition to many communities, and things of this nature – bike sharing and others – are just steps in that direction to try to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce our carbon emissions and get to that carbon neutral state by 2050.”

La Crosse Neighborhood Inc. hopes to have the bike sharing program implemented by Spring of next year.
