New Mayo Heritage Film details history of St. Francis Hospital, Skemp Clinic’s joining the system
Film documents history of St. Francis Hospital and the Skemp Clinic

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – “Lighting the Flame,” a film about the history of the St. Francis Hospital and the Skemp Clinic, is now available to watch.
The half-hour documentary tells the story of how the two La Crosse medical institutions joined up with the health system.
This is the first film in the Mayo Clinic Heritage Film collection made about a particular facility.
Tom Williams, the writer and director of the film, found a unique connection between the growth of the medical community in both La Crosse and Rochester.
“It was two hospitals founded in the 19th century by congregations of Franciscan Sisters virtually simultaneously, and both of them had important relationships with a set of physician brothers,” said Williams.
You can watch the film online along with other Mayo Clinic Heritage Films.
