New state-of-the-art mental health facility opens in Trempealeau Co.
TREMPEALEAU CO., Wis. (WKBT) — Western Wisconsin is now home to one of the most state-of-the-art mental health facilities in the state.
The Trempealeau County Health Care Center recently opened its new $27-million facility in Whitehall.
The center houses more than 140 beds, 112 of which are used by people from across the state with severe mental disease, making the health care center the largest of its kind in Wisconsin.
The health center’s executive director says their old building was built in the 70’s and their needs and services have grown in that time.
“The goal was to have a space that was safe, but yet enhanced quality of life, and I think we’ve hit that mark,” said Mary Gullicksrud.
Now that patients are moved into the new facility, leaders at the health care center are looking into their options for the future of the old building.
