New TX law will allow open carry of knives, swords

Beginning Sept. 1, citizens of The Lone Star State will be able to open carry knives, daggers, swords, spears and Bowie knives, reforming a law that placed a ban on theses weapons.

KPRC reports the legislation, House Bill 1935–also known as the “Texas Knife Law Reform Bill”–was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 15. According to the bill, knives may be carried anywhere except schools, colleges, correctional facilities, houses of worship and bars. Minors are also exempt from carrying.

The signing comes almost two months after one person was killed and three others injured in a stabbing on the campus of the University of Texas.
