New York hopscotchers try to set world record

A group of hopscotch fans in New York tried to set a world record Thursday.

More than 700 hopscotchers gathered in Rochester to play at one time, hoping to best the standing record of 621 people playing the old-fashioned game simultaneously, according to WROC. That record was set in Georgia in 2015.

“We were trying to figure out as a church what could we do to bring people together, and this was an idea someone sat around the table and said, ‘What about hopscotch?’ and we thought ‘Do we even remember how to play hopscotch?'” said Stephen Cady with Asbury First United Methodist Church.

In case you forgot how to play, Parents.com has a pretty good refresher, complete with rules and tricks.

The group in Rochester could have to wait up to 12 weeks to find out if they set a record, according to the Guinness World Records website.
