Nighttime boating crash is fatal on Lake Shetek

LAKE SHETEK, Minn. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a boating accident on a southwestern Minnesota lake.

The Marshall Independent reports Monday that 49-year-old Perry James Altermatt of Lamberton died in the accident, which happened about 12:30 a.m. Sunday on Lake Shetek.

Murray County sheriff’s officials say two others on the boat were injured and taken to a local hospital.

Authorities say they arrived to the accident to find a 21-foot Fiberglass boat wedged under a bridge. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says this year is turning out to be one of the deadliest on state waterways. Twenty-eight people have drowned in Minnesota lakes and rivers, including boating-related deaths.
