No fines for Albia care facility

ALBIA, Iowa (AP) — An Albia care facility that the state says failed to monitor residents or investigate their injuries will be required to take corrective action but will not be fined.

The Des Moines Register reported Monday that Parkview Cottage failed to prevent a male resident from being alone with a female resident in the woman’s bathroom but state officials say there was no evidence an assault occurred and no one witnessed an assault.

The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals received two phone calls in August about two instances of suspected sexual abuse at the care center but agency spokesman Dave Werning says there was insufficient evidence to support the claims of abuse.

The administrator of the facility declined immediate comment.
