No injuries after explosion, fire at Xcel Energy’s French Island plant
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) — There were no injuries to employees and firefighters after an explosion and fire at Xcel Energy’s French Island plant that’s used to burn garbage into energy.
The La Crosse Fire Department was dispatched to the plant located at 200 Bainbridge St. at about 4:50 p.m. Monday.
Crews put out several fires throughout the main garbage processing area.
Initial reports from employees indicate an explosion followed by a large amount of fire.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine a cause.
Xcel Energy and Tri-State Ambulance crews assisted at the scene.
