No injuries in Madison group home fire

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — All nine residents of a Madison group home are safe after a late-night fire caused $100,000 in damage.

Firefighters arrived at the two-story Goodwill Group Home at 11:45 p.m. Saturday. Crews saw flames coming from a first-floor window and heavy smoke coming from a door on the other side of the residential building.

Eight residents and a live-in residential counselor were home when the fire began in the laundry room. Most of the residents were sleeping, so many ran outside in pajamas and bare feet or socks.

A Madison Metro bus helped keep residents warm. The American Red Cross also helped the residents with blankets.

The Capital Times reports the cause of the fire is under investigation. The residents will stay at other Goodwill Group Homes.
