No vote on WIAA multiplier, ad-hoc committee created

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — A vote on whether to pass a 1.65 private school enrollment multiplier never occurred at Wednesday’s WIAA Annual Meeting. Instead a motion to create an ad-hoc committee passed 352 to 77.

With passage of the motion, no up or down vote was taken on the multiplier proposal.

The committee will be put in charge of collecting data and looking into the issues that surround the imbalance of private school representation at WIAA state tournaments.

The timeline for the committee is to have recommendations that can be put up for discussion at the fall WIAA Area Meetings in September.

A final recommendation will be sent to the WIAA Executive Committee by December 1, 2014 and will advance to the 2015 Annual Meeting for implementation for the 2015-2016 school year.

Some voiced concern over the quick timeline the committee will be asked to work with.

Other proposals were also debated and discussed at Wednesday’s meeting. A motion to hand authority of conference realignment from the WIAA to the schools was defeated by a margin of 400 to 26.
