Northern Iowa school district receives $2M donation
BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa (AP) — The North Iowa Community School District in Buffalo Center has received a $2 million donation from the trust of a former high school graduate.
The Mason City Globe Gazette reported the school district in the town of fewer than 1,000 people received the donation from the Ben F. Sloter Trust to create a scholarship fund.
Sloter graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1938 and owned Coastate Builders. In 2007, Sloter pledged to leave most of his trust to the district to help students pursue higher education. He died in 2010.
The school district recently received a $750,000 check from the trust. In July, it received 160 acres of farmland valued at more than $1.2 million.
Superintendent Cory Myer says scholarships will be based on criteria identified by Sloter.
