Not As Cold Today… But The Trade Off Is Plenty Of Clouds

Monday’s High: 26F / Tonight’s Low: 13F – Last updated Monday, December 16, 2019 at 7:53 AM…

It was nice to see lots of blue sky and sunshine on Sunday, but it was cold with highs only in the teens. Clouds increased late in the day and last night as a disturbance tracked by to our south. About the southern half of the viewing area saw some very light snow or flurries, so don’t be shocked to see a thin layer of snow on the car windshield this morning in those areas. Temps actually went up a few degrees overnight, thanks to that cloud cover.

Today won’t be as cold, but the trade off will be plenty of clouds. With some luck, we may see some partial clearing later this afternoon in some areas. Highs today will range from the low 20s (north) to the low 30s (far south). La Crosse will likely see a high temp in the mid 20s.

Partly cloudy and seasonably cold tonight. Lows will range from the single digits to mid teens.

More clouds than sun on Tuesday. A passing cold front could squeeze out some afternoon flurries, especially north and east. Highs Tuesday will range from the upper teens (north) to the low-mid 20s… perhaps upper 20s far south.

Clearing and much colder again Tuesday night into Wednesday. Lows Tuesday night into Wednesday morning will range from around -10F (north) to the single digits above zero (south). La Crosse will likely see a low near or slightly below zero. Wind chills will likely drop into the -10F to -20F range, perhaps -25F far north. We should see plenty of sunshine Wednesday, but expect highs only in the teens.

Looking Ahead… Much warmer starting Thursday. In fact, it’s looking like above average temps will be the rule right through the weekend and into the start of next week. Expect highs mainly in the 30s, with overnight lows mainly in the 20-25F range.

It’s also looking quiet through this period, with mainly dry conditions expected. In fact, I’m not seeing any significant storm systems right through next Tuesday, which is Christmas Eve. Be sure to stay tuned for updates, especially if you have travel plans around the Christmas holiday.

Have a good Monday and a great week ahead! -Bill Graul
