Officer hit by car in Holmen drug arrest identified

La Crosse Inv. James Mancuso had minor injuries

We now know the name of the officer injured during a drug arrest in Holmen.

La Crosse Police Department Investigator James Mancuso was hit by a car driven by 24-year-old Brandon Ritter last week when officers tried to arrest Ritter as part of an ongoing drug investigation. Mancuso is a part of the West Central MEG Unit, which includes drug investigators from multiple agencies in the area.

Mancuso shot at Ritter as he drove away until Ritter hit a snowbank and was arrested.

Both were treated for minor injuries.

Investigator Mancuso is now on paid administrative leave as part of the department’s protocol for officer-involved shootings.

Ritter is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
