Oktoberfest officially kicks off with tapping the Samuel Adams Golden Keg
LA CROSSE (WKBT) — The 61st La Crosse Oktoberfest is underway.
Thousands of eager festgoers rushed to the downtown festgrounds Friday morning for the tapping of the Golden Keg.
The annual tradition marks the official opening ceremony, but for a lot of festers, the ceremony means much more than that.
“You got Christmas, you got Thanksgiving. In La Crosse, you got the tapping of the golden keg. It’s amazing, the entire community comes out. Tons of employers actually give their employees the day off to come down, tap the keg and be a part of this amazing tradition,” said Oktoberfest President Mark Wemette.
The downtown fest grounds will be open until midnight on Saturday.
