Oktoberfest royal family passes bread donation on to WAFER in La Crosse
The tradition dates to the early years of the role, when the Mrs. O's would get the loaves of bread
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) – An old tradition for Mrs. Oktoberfest is back this year, and it will help the community.
2021’s Mrs. Oktoberfest Ilene Kernozek walked in to work to find a surprise this morning: 100 loaves of bread.
The tradition dates to the early years of the role, during which the Mrs. O’s would get the loaves of bread.
Members of the royal family donated the bread La Crosse’s WAFER food shelf.
The donation will fill a need.
“We rarely get sliced bread, so this is a super treat for the people that we serve,” said WAFER executive director Erin Waldhart.
That bread will go quickly, because it’s one of WAFER’s most requested items, Waldhart said, and it could be gone as quickly as one day.
