Onalaska Citizen Police Academy returns in March
Police dept. accepting applications for program
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — The Onalaska Citizen Police Academy (CPA) will return in March.
The Onalaska Police Department hosts the 10-week program, which was revived in April 2013 after a several year hiatus.
Participants of the program will learn about crime scene investigations, emergency vehicle operations and control (EVOC) defense, arrest tactics (DAAT) and a K-9 program overview, along with other daily police operations.
The classes, which will be held one night a week for ten weeks beginning March 12, will held primarily at the Onalaska Police Department but will include field trips to the La Crosse County Jail, the shooting range, and the La Crosse County Dispatch Center.
“I was very pleased by the success of the CPA last year,” Onalaska Police Chief Jeff Trotnic said in a statement. “Sergeant Jobe and Officer Meyers along with the instructors did an excellent job and I have every confidence that this year will yield another success.”
The Onalaska Police Department is currently accepting applications for the program. Applications will be accepted form anyone who lives or works in the Coulee Region, but preference will be given to citizens who work, live or attend school, in the City of Onalaska. Applicants must be at least 18 years-old to participate.
