Onalaska School Dist. warns parents after Navy recruiter’s child porn arrest
David Humphries charged with possession of child pornography
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — The Onalaska School Districtis warning parents about a navy recruiter recently arrested for child pornography.
The district sent a letter home to parents making them aware of the arrest of 35-year-old David Humphries of La Crosse.
The district says Humphries was in contact with a freshman at Onalaska High School on Facebook when the student became concerned about the messages Humphries was sending. The student’s parents showed the messages to the district who called police and the Navy in early January.
An investigation turned up child pornography on two of Humphries’ computers. Humphries was charged with possession of child pornography.
The district says the student was not harmed, but it’s a good reminder for parents and students to be careful when using social media.
“One, for parents to have conversations with their kids about what they are hearing or seeing on social media, and to really emphasize to kids, if something doesn’t seem right and something doesn’t feel right, talk to your parents about it. Also, parents if something doesn’t look right, I would always encourage you to air on the side of caution and contact someone to look into it further,” said Onalaska H.S. Principal Jared Schaffner.
The Navy says Humphries had not been in contact with any other Onalaska students, but they are looking for any communications he had with other students in the area.
