Onalaska schools move back to virtual

ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — The Onalaska School District Wednesday announced that it will return to virtual learning Monday due to the increased community spread of COVID-19.

Superintendent Todd Antony said in a letter to parents and guardians that he recognized the short turnaround will create challenges; however, he said it was in the best interest of the health and safety of students, staff and the community.

“I understand the difficulty that moving between in-person and virtual creates for families and appreciate your patience, understanding and flexibility. We have so enjoyed having students back and hope for their return as quickly as possible,” he said.

All previously approved programming such as emergency day programming and serving students experiencing barriers to virtual learning will resume on November 2.

As part of the Reopening Plan, each Wednesday the District monitors the release of data from the La Crosse County Health Department related to COVID-19 in order to make decisions related to in-person versus online learning. The District looks at a number of indicators including the new daily case rate per
100,000 people on a seven day average, the percentage of positive cases over the same seven days and the identified trend of the case rate. The seven day period runs from the previous Monday through Sunday.

As opposed to a weekly status update, communication related to mode of learning will come only when a switch can be anticipated.
