Onalaska teacher nominated for Teacher of the Year
ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — A teacher at Onalaska High School has been nominated as the Wisconsin representative for the Teacher of the Year program.
French teacher, Brian Wopat will represent Wisconsin at the regional level selection at the Central States Conference on the Teaching of Foreign Languages in Minneapolis in March, 2020.
Wopat earned his bachelors in French and masters in Education and Professional Development from UW-La Crosse. He studied abroad in Caen, France and earned the Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieurs de la Langue Française.
Wopat, a National Board Certified Teacher, currently serves as Secretary on the board of the Wisconsin Association for Language Teachers and Secretary/Treasurer for the American Association of Teachers of French Wisconsin Chapter. He has presented at state, regional, and national language conferences. He has served as an adjunct World Language Methods instructor for UW-La Crosse and Viterbo University.
Wopat recently became a member of the Board of Education for the School District of Holmen. In that capacity he hopes to uphold the district’s mission: Educating Every Student for Global Success. In his own words, he seeks to “empower students to be linguistically and culturally competent members of the global community.” He lives in Holmen with his wife and two children.
